Great Finds!!

We have been in Moore County now for 2 hours, and I have already hit the thrift store. I didn't expect much since I didn't arrive on the day they opened. They open up for the week on Wednesday, and that is the day you can find the best stuff. I did find 3 kids DVD's. They were marked $2 each, but the lady let me have them all for $3. I came right home and put them on Ebay. I will let you know how they did. I also got Mark a nice pair of dress pants. The lady was taking them out of a dry cleaning bag. They were only $2. What some great finds.

Treasure Hunting Fish!!

This week found me heading outside in the beautiful sunshine to fish. I got my fishing gear together (a bottle of water, toasted corn and bait) and I was ready to catch a whooper. My bait started out being Hillshire Farm Little Smokies. After about an hour of nothing, I switched bait. I then went to rotisserie chicken skin. These fish are feed with kitchen scraps so they love people food....usually. I couldn't even catch a turtle!!! That is unusually too for the turtle not to bother you while you are fishing. I finally gave up on the fishing. I mean if my cork isn't going to bob up and down once in while...what is the use???

As you can see, I use a cane pole. I like this better than the rod and reel. I went to fish and my hook was broke. Started off having to fix my pole. Should have known it was going to be a rotten day for fishing. Not one bite!!!

After my fishing expedition was over, I took a quick shower and decided to go treasure hunting at my favorite thrift store, The Whispering Pines Thrift Store that is located on the Vass/Carthage Rd. I love this store. I haven't been in a while because I find more treasure than I have room for at home. Today I was looking for things to go outside that I might could redo or repaint, but found nothing. I did hit the jackpot though.

This was my jackpot load from treasure hunting. I spent a whole$2.25 for everything pictured. I just hate to pay retail sometimes.

I found 2 records that I thought we would like. We have a thing that does records, tapes, CD's and radio, so we buy records to listen to at times. One is Julie London. I got this because Mark and I love to watch Emergency (the show from the 70's), and she plays Nurse Dixie McCall on Emergency. She was known more for her singing than acting until she starred on that show. She was also married to Bobby Troup on that show who played Dr. Early in real life. Jerry Reed was the other record...I thought Mark would like this one. These were 25 cents each.

I found a very nice Vera Bradley clutch (5o cents)...guess where it is going? And I got Mark this very nice looking Jerry Garcia tie(25 cents).

A pair of Zephz tennis shoes. A whole 50 cents spent on these. These are actually cheer leading shoes when I googled them. LOL They retail for about $49.99. I think I will be able to get my 50 cents worth out of them.

A pair of Easy Spirit tennis shoes for me for the unbelievable price of 50 cents. I love finding tennis shoes at the thrift store. I don't feel bad when they wear out knowing that I don't have that much money invested in them.

I didn't find anything to go outside like pots or some small wicker pieces, but I don't think that I did bad. I know some people who think that shopping at a thrift store is beneath them, but who doesn't like to save money? Well, I know one person who once said that if they had to use a coupon to go out to eat, then they would stay home. I thought you big dummy...you don't want to save money?? How ignorant can one be? We had a friend to buy one of those attraction books for Wilmington, and we have used lots of coupons out of it. It allows you not only to save money, but also try new restaurants without paying full price. You might not like them, but this way you only paid for one meal. I try to save whenever I can. I don't have to have a pair of shoes right now, but when I wear my other ones out...I have not one but two pair for a whole buck.

Findings

This week's treasure hunting turned up some pretty good finds. I still only got to visit one thrift store, but it is my favorite one.


Got Mark this Docker's sweater for only $1.50. All men's clothes were 1/2 off because they have tons of men's clothes.

I got this cute little cooler to carry our drinks and water in the car with us for $2. I thought it was a steal.

Mark a pair of jeans and another sweater for $2...for both things. Woohoo!!! Great deals.

A quilted purse for .75. I love these quilted purses with all the pockets on the inside.

Another cooler for only $2. If you have gone to buy a new cooler lately, so know that this was a super deal.

Black and Decker cordless handi mixer with all the attachments for only $2. I just looked at something kind of like this for $40 in the store. Deals!!! Deals!!! Deals!!!!

A mystery novel for .25. I think that I actually picked this up at the library. I was thrilled to get. I love mysteries.

Brand new Christmas soap dish and cup for the bathroom for only $1. I think that this might be a vintage set that was unused because the bottom is stamped Japan.

2 Christmas tins for .10 each. I will use these to put my own goodies in this Christmas season.

Cookie and decorating set that has never been opened for $1. I bought 2 tubs of cookie dough from the school, so now I have a reason to use this.

A beautiful puzzle for only a quarter, and you know how I love to put puzzles together.

An America sign to hang on my porch during 4th of July. I love to find plaques to decorate my porch with each season or holiday.

Don't think that I did too bad this week in finding my treasures. I love to hunt down the bargains.

Your Junk, My Treasure

As you know, I love to go treasure hunting. Now I don't mean that I have a treasure map and digging up someones lawn. I love to go to thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales and get things I like and need at a steal. What one person sees as junk another sees as a treasure. My favorite thrift store is Whispering Pines Thrift. I mentioned this in another blog. Anyway, these are my treasures that I found this week at Whispering Pines.
Walking shoes that really look like they have only be worn once or twice. I paid a whole buck for them. I love them and they wear so good. Okay, I googled these shoes and they retail for around $90, so that was an extra good deal.

A very nice soft blanket that I plan to leave in the car for when we travel and I want to wrap up in something. I did spent a whole $2 on this, but it was so nice. Came home and washed it, and now it is as good as new.

I got Mark this beautiful tie for .25....can you believe that? If you have went and bought a tie lately they range from $15 to $40 depending on where you are shopping.

This is probably my favorite item that I picked up. It is a condiment holder. I use a lot of Styrofoam bowls when we do hamburgers or hot dogs to hold my pickles, onions and olives, but not anymore. This little baby was only $1.

A Ty beanie baby turkey for our niece Kate. I am putting together a Thanksgiving package for her and thought this would be perfect to include. I couldn't leave this at the store when it was a mere .50.

My genuine suede house boots. That is what the tag inside calls them. Very nice with a bottom that is made to go outside. Only $1 for these babies.

Okay, I really like these as well. They are vintage aluminum spice shakers, that don't look like they were ever used. They are as clean as a whistle on the inside. They have the names of the spice stamped on the side. I got all 8 of these in a bag for .50.

Last, but not least my Vera Bradley Cell phone case. .25 for this one and I am happy to say that it is currently on EBay with 12 watchers. No bids yet, but it still has over 4 days to go on bid. I will have to update you on how well it did on EBay. These are the kinds of things that I like to find to post on EBay to sell. It makes your business very profitable.

All in all, I felt I did really well this week on my treasure hunting. I just can't believe that I didn't get a book. I only spent $6.50 for everything that I got. I could hardly believe it. Someones junk, but now my cherished treasures.
